“I am given to dark visions. I have seen too much anger and violence, and I often fear that may be close to our true nature.”
“We did not invent the Water of Life, any more than we made the spring at the foot of the Kurdish mountains. And we do not force it down the people’s throats, any more than we made our neighbours drink pure water. No compulsion is needed, nor even advertising; pure water, physical or spiritual, is its own advocate. The need is to make it available; and that is the job of the missionary.”
Some will recognise the tribute to the late Harvie M. Conn’s book of the same name in the title of this website. This is a reflection of the influence the book has had on me. Me? I am (among other things) theologically trained, practiced in cross-cultural mission, a researcher specialising in Islam, and a self-taught linguist and translator.
